A very warm welcome to all the dignitaries on and off the dais. It is my honour to present the annual report of Malabar English School 2019-’20.
It is indeed a pleasure to have a quick review of the 21 years that this institution has marched forward… From the school that Sri Valsan Matathil had started at Chakkarakal with a handful of students to its present state, with substantial strength of over 1000 students nurtured by about 75 dedicated teaching and non teaching staff, aiming at holistic development of students in a very amiable friendly, stress-free atmosphere. Our beloved students are not only guided and trained for academic excellence but equal importance is given to inculcate good values, right attitude, good ideas and good ideals .
The academic session for the 21st year began in June , packed with activities to bring about integrated development enriched by knowledge of Indian culture and strengthened by patriotism and universal outlook. This year started off in a pro active note : for the first time all the 50 teachers were given a Two-day training directly from the CBSE centre of excellence under the able resource persons Mr VR Jayaprasad and Mr Joji Paul .
The emphasise is given to the 4 Cs of the present Century; Communicative skills Colloborative skills,Creative thinking skills and Critical thinking skills during the teaching -learning process
The School Assembly marks the beginning of the day with a prayer, invoking the Lords grace and blessings. This is followed by speech, recitation, quiz, songs skits etc which help in instilling leadership qualities, courage, confidence good moral, spiritual and social values.
The assembly is also a platform for Celebrations & day’s observation. Many important days like Environment day, Sanskrit day, Children’s day, National Education day, National Integration day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Teacher’s Day, Onam, Christmas etc are observed and celebrated with great spirit.
This year as a part of the SEWA programme of CBSE the senior students were taken to the flood-affected Veliyambra near Mattanur and a small kit of food items and a small amount towards the purchase of books for the affected children were distributed .This opportunity and experience to serve and empathise the victims was arranged by Mrs Nisha in co ordination with AIR
Co-curricular Activities The house captains and vice captains of the 4 houses namely Gandhi, Nehru. Kalam and Tagore are elected and given different duties after a solemn Investiture ceremony. About 200 prizes — I, II and III prizes were awarded to 650 students. Every year our talented students participate in the All India Radio Kingini programme under the guidance of Mrs Nisha MK . Dance classes are conducted under the guidance of MrsPremaja ,Mrs Sushama and Mrs Kavitha and Mrs Bhanu . Mr Sarvesh instructs the students in Taekwondo and Abacus classes are given by Mrs Sherli . Motivation classes and Stress management classes for X std students and Good Parenting Sessions for parents by Mr Manoj Mythili also were organised this year.
Inter School Competitions
Our school students are encouraged to participate in inter school sports, literary and cultural competitions of the Sahodaya School complex for CBSE schools. Miss Anusreya Achalendran of VI std proved her prowess in State level Malayalam Elocution , Master Adithyan A V of IX std brought us honour by securing A Grade in the state level CBSE Sahodaya Kalotsavam for Collage
Competitive Examinations
Sahodaya Scholarship examination, Mother Theresa Art and Handwriting competitions were held at School . This year our students participated in the BYJUS Quiz Competition and Thrisha KP of IX and Mukthar of VI were selected for the state level competition to be held tomorrow
Club Activities
Various clubs like Eco and health club, Literary club, Science club, mathematics club were formed in the beginning of the academic year. Regular activities like speeches, Quizzes, Shramadaan, health Seminars Swatchchata mission are carried out by these clubs. By participating actively in club activities the children are brought closer to nature and their latent talents are brought out. Free dental check-up sponsored by The Kannur Dental College was conducted for our students
Malabar Exhibition
This year our Exhibition organised on Dec 21st highlighted the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, models and teaching aids, Art and craft, Ramanujam Day Olympiad Christmas Celebrations including a jolly Santa claus etc. Our special guest was Mr Rajesh KP Senior Mathematics Lecturer DIET Thalassery . The Cookery contest for X & IX Std boys and girls was also conducted on the same day.
Sports and Games
The annual sports day was flagged off by Mr. Manoj, PET of Varam U P School.
Master Mohd Ajmal and Miss Anusha V of Grade X Carried the lighted torch followed by a March Past and Mass Drill. Inter house Football and shuttle matches were held . Master Sravan of Xstd and Miss Saniya Pradeep of IX std were declared Individual champions. As a part of health and Physical education stipulated by CBSE Yoga classes are given to the staff and students by Mrs Priyaja Dinesh
Environmental Awarness
The school promotes environment consciousnes in students by planting trees (Ornamental, shady , Medicinal Herbs and vegitable gardening). Students participate in Eco and Health club which promote gardening.Swachhatha Wing takes care of the clenliness of the campus and surroundings.It is the responsibility of each house on a weekly basis to see that cleanliness is maintainted everywhere.
Children have been instructed to stop the use of plastic bottles, plastic wrapped sweets etc
Educational Tours
The much awaited educational tour programme was organised and the children enjoyed immensely and gathered a lot of information and experience visiting the Kaanjirakolli waterfalls, Vayalapra vadagara craft village and vismaya water theme park .
Jyothi Pradhan
JYothi Pradhan is a solemn ceremony that is conducted to bless the out –going students of Xstd, The students are given lighted lamps lit by the mother lamp , symbolising the light of knowledge , to lighten and brighten their path in the future. Mr. Venugopalan sir , Former Principal of M E S as the special guest who advised the students giving them tips in time management, stress management, values and ideals that will make them good scholars and worthy citizens.
In-Service training for teachers
Many workshops and training programmes conducted by CBSE and Sahodaya school complex and other Publishing companies are attended by the Principal and teachers of our school so that they are well aware of the latest trends in the teaching-learning process. This ensures that students and teachers of our school are at par with other CBSE students of the city.
Parents and PTA meetings
A vital role is played by our parents in the progress of this school. PTA meetings were held are regularly in July October and December and for the KG section in August and December. The PTA president Mr. Sajesh is an active member of the council. The progress of the students are discussed, suggestions and opinions of parents and teachers are shared in the presence of the Management. A friendly and healthy rapport is depicted in the over-whelming and active participation of our beloved parents in all the activities of the school. We have enjoyed this support from the Parents in the past and look forward to the same in future also. We are indeed grateful to each and every parent for the same.
Proficiency Prizes
In appreciation of academic excellence, the top scorers of each division from class I to IX are awarded Proficiency prizes. 28 toppers are given prizes for the year 2018-’19.
Endowment prizes
Endowment prizes are instituted by the management to the best students of VII, VIII and IX Std. for their excellence and academic calibre for the academic year 2018-’19.
- Shri. Krishnan Nair Memorial Endowment in memory of the (Former Principal of Malabar Arts College, Kannur) goes to Fatimatu Zahra of IX Std.
- Shri. Kunhikannan Master Memorial Endowment in memory of the (Founder Secretary of Malabar Educational and Charitable Trust, Kannur) is awarded to Thrisha K P of VIII Std.
- Shri. Purushothaman Nambiar Memorial Endowment (Former Co-ordinator, Malabar Educational and Charitable Trust) is presented to Krishnendu P & Mayoogha Rajesh of VII Std.
Gold Medal Our Management honours and encourages the efforts of the successful students who have shown a spectacular performance in the AISSE the X std CBSE Exams by awarding gold medals to the students who secured A1 in all subjects.
The gold medal winners of the academic year 2018-19are,
- Miss Nandana CK , Master. Sritirth and Master Sayandh
Xstd RESULTS : 19 students appeared for the CBSE board examination in march 2019. All students passed securing grades above 75% Three students who got A1 in all subjects are given Gold Medals by Sri Valsan Matathil.
Malabar NurserySchools
7 Nursery schools with LKG and UKG classes function as sub-centres under the leadership of Mrs. Veena Suresh. The head-quarters is at Chakkarakal. These Sub centres work under the noble guidance of Shri Prabhakaran.
Besides a sound infrastructure the school has all the facilities –school buses, playground canteen, store, library, computer and Science lab . The digital classrooms foster opportunities for teaching and learning by integrating computer and internet facility ,The calm and serene atmosphere is very conducive to learning facilitates our students to achieve great heights . The CBSE work style laid by our former Principal Shri Venugopalan is still followed supplemented by the timely changes instructed by the CBSE. Being assisted by a group of dedicated and hard -working teaching and non-teaching staff and supported by cordial and co-operative parents, with a set of obedient, loving and enthusiastic students, my goals are indeed attainable. The guidance support and encouragement of the management, both Mr. Valsan Matathil and Mrs. Sreeja Matathil is immense and reassuring and prompts us to aim higher and higher. Above all we have been abundantly blessed by the almighty God whose presence is felt in all our endeavours to enlighten and mould the budding world citizens of tomorrow.
